TBH if I were black especially I’d probably be jaded and confused about this country. We venerate our founders and their words and yet were I black, I’d be even more keenly sensitive to the fact that Jefferson was a lifelong slaveowner. Our contradictions as a nation are part of our national story.
If you were black, your parents would have told you about the police and racist white people when you were little, and there would be no confusion. You’d know this country’s stated ideals and reality are very different things.
