I know this won’t make any difference but “free speech” is not exclusive to The First Amendment. That’s just a tired talking people use to fool themselves that they’re not limiting the free speech of others. Nobody wants to think of themselves as pro-censorship or intolerant.

I don’t understand why students who have paid some four years of tuition to a University have some obligation to hear nonsensical dumbshittery from a borderline war criminal on their graduation day if they don’t want to. If the students and faculty are united in opposition to such a speaker there’s no valid “free speech” lesson the administration needs to force upon them via executive fiat.

University Presidents and their, bureaucratic, dysfunctional administrations are frequently responsible for the worst, most frustrating aspects of college life anywhere. The idea that their whimsical idiotic commencement speaker choices should be indulged, respected, or honored at all simply because it comes from a position of nominal leadership is fucking ridiculous.
