re: #346 Naso Tang

You describe a disfunctional situation, but I was describing one that simply considers pregnancy either inevitable, or a ticket to paid rent, and to a certain degree the number of kids determines how big a place one can get.

It’s easy to blame a teenager whose parents did the same thing, and whose leaders don’t do squat, but I blame all of us for being such prissies we can’t discuss or pay for family planning in a serious manner without calling it abstinence.

I mostly agree with you.

But I think the first step, the most important is teaching responsibility and expecting people to take responsibility. Much in life doesn’t “just happen” people make choices, and engage in behaviors that have predictable results. Then when those predictable results occur, the current societal reaction is to call them a victim, and mitigate the consequences of the choices and actions they’ve made.

I’m more than willing to help pick ‘em up dust ‘em off and get them on their feet. But the system is not designed to do that, it’s designed to create a dependent, not independent person.
