Yeah, it is rather distasteful that my generation and the ones who have come since are being held responsible for the debts of our parents and (yes) grandparents generations. It’s a might infuriating when I’m told that, in order to balance the books, I’m supposed to do without the social safety net, but my parents are “entitled” to it for the rest of their lives.

It’s infuriating, yes, but OTOH, I can’t afford to take care of my parents in their retirement, so…I’ll take what I can get.

My kids can put me out on an ice floe when I’m old.

(I said this to my mother, who looked sad and said, “Honey, when you’re old there won’t be any ice floes left.”)
