I worked in that industry for years. I think the competition 4 carriers engenders really is needed to keep the carriers providing good service. At 2 carriers, things get tight enough that bad practices can set in and leave customers without a way to escape those practices, since there would not be a place to good in both carriers are engaged in a bad practice. But with 4 carriers, someone will always be able to profit by treating the customers better. In this case, blocking the merger is needed to allow the free market to work properly. I don’t like regulation much, but in this case I think it needed.
