Yes, it is an interesting quirk. Of course, the thesis that Jesus wasn’t Jewish has been around for quite awhile, and the idea still survives to this day in some circles. I believe the Christian Identity movement has a similar idea, though of course, in their view Jesus was a white European, as white Europeans are the descendants of the Biblical Israelites. If I remember right, CI is an offshoot of British Israelism.
