I’m personally uncomfortable with this whole notion of adopting British libel laws; we have to be very careful with tinkering with the 1A for fear of rendering it moot. Trump would have been able to use such laws to prevent unflattering articles from seeing the light of day. It’s bad enough that too many feel that they cannot criticize the powerful for fear of losing their job or out of greed to maintain their position. Let’s not make it even easier for the wealthy to silence us.

The First Amendment does not give someone a right to lie just as it does not cover a person maliciously shouting “fire” in a crowded theater.
