Ol’ Nelson had better things to do with his time, or better mistresses to do with whatever time he had remaining, which was only about three years at that point anyway.
Look, the point is, he died happy, albeit with a woman who wasn’t Happy.
(I had a great time showing my teenage son around the state capitol and all the things named for Nelson, while recounting the bawdy tale of his exit from this earth.)
As I’ve said many, many, many times… I have never understood the appeal of the Vice Presidency. The only upside is that you’ll probably be the frontrunner in a future presidential race. Otherwise, you have no real autonomy, your approval rating is tied to the president, and it just seems like a shit job at the end of the day.
