If that day does come, they would have peace that afternoon.

Unfortunately, if just the Palestinians renounce violence against Israel, they will find themselves attacked and their leaders deposed, by the other Arab nations. Their once chance, really, would be to simultaneously rejected armed resistance against Israel and denounce the other Arab states for fueling the conflict, and work with Israel at keeping the borders secure.
