re: #257 HoosierHoops

I’m looking at houses in More..What do you think?

I think you should spell it “Moore”, which in my time was kind of a meh bedroom community for both OKC and Norman. You could get a lot of real estate and house for your money there IIRC.

re: #277 funky chicken

Well…where do you work? Moore has some nice areas because it got, er, excavated by an F-5 that tore through there in the last decade. The traffic is heavier down there than up here, but there’s more to do in Norman than Edmond. I would not even consider Piedmont or Yukon, and probably wouldn’t look at Mustang either.

Be sure to ask if any house you look at flooded in July when we had a foot of rain in about 2 hours. Lots of places that aren’t close to waterways flooded pretty bad. A lot of south Edmond and other places in OKC were under water.

If I’m working in Norman, I consider it, Moore, and maybe south OKC. Everything else would be too far away for my comfort.

Hoops, one thing you may not have experienced yet is the full effect of a big T-storm down there. Since the ground is mostly clay, it doesn’t absorb water worth a darn, and the copious amounts that fall in a very short time have to go SOMEWHERE. Part of your due diligence when buying a home there has to be consideration of the drainage pattern of the land in which you have an interest. The categories are Good, Improvable, and Forget It.

The two biggest mistakes I made when I moved there (other than moving there itself)—one, not getting cloth seats for my car to replace the vinyl ones my car had when I bought it two years earlier; and two, living in an apartment building with a flat roof. Something about getting water through the walls when one is on the first floor of a two-floor building, and watching the thermostat in the living room fill with water.
