Legacy students are a red-herring:

Legacy Students Up To 45% More Likely To Be Admitted To Elite Colleges
[Link: www.huffingtonpost.com…]

How is that a red herring? If you’re black, and thus not a legacy, you’re being discriminated against if you apply to an elite college. Just because this particular form of discrimination is localized doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. And for what it’s worth, affirmative action tends (where conservatives haven’t prevented it) to do its work at those same elite colleges. Community colleges don’t really do much affirmative action because they don’t need to.

Students should not be discriminated against because of their sex or race, period.

Problem is, they are discriminated against. Affirmative action is an attempt to correct some of that discrimination.
