A lot of people might be confused by the phrase “do you believe in evolution”, particularly older people who were taught evolution 30-40 years ago. Hell, I don’t “believe” everything I was taught in school (or I’d be a leftist). Perhaps it would be better to ask if they understand the theory of evolution.

Using the term “believe” when talking about evolution only plays into the hands of those who want to claim it’s a belief system/religion. I utterly reject that word when discussing evolution with others now, and insist on using “accept”.
