Setting aside the debate about her qualifications and experience, Palin could well have hit on the winning strategy by setting up a direct and continuous confrontation with the establishment media and the extended media culture.

I would speculate that she got this idea by watching McCain’s miserable efforts to appease the media last year, demonstrating once and for all that they are the opposition itself and not simply a mouthpiece for the opposition.

McCain’s years of palling around with media on his Straight talk Express Bus, and making “media availability” his highest priority, did not stop the same media from trying to take McCain down with fake stories alleging McCain flirted with a lobbyist, Vicki Iseman.

The New York Times, whose own Johnny Apple loved John McCain for years, tried to topple McCain as Dan Rather tried to topple Pres. Bush in 2004.

Governor Palin is smart to not waste her life as McCain did, kissing media ass and betting on the media to carry Palin’s messages.
