Rendell was an excellent mayor (unless you were a union guy) and he made a noticeable difference in the QOL in Philly. But he’s sucked as governor from day 1. A Republican candidate with a modicum of charisma and a coherent platform could have clobbered him in 06. Swan wasn’t that guy. He still isn’t.

As long as the GOP keeps backing candidates like Swann and Toomey and Santorum, PA will keep electing Democrats. That’s the point Charles has been trying to make in these posts but some people just don’t get it.
