I like how he’s basically admitting aloud what most people have known for weeks, that Bakhmut was never about establishing a strategic victory or laying the groundwork for Russian advances, it was purely a morale booster that they thought could benefit them by grinding down the AFU. Instead, the numbers show that almost half of all the losses Russia has sustained since the start of the war happened in Bakhmut and they’re still sending men to their deaths because they hope they can finally claim a “win.”

So basically, a do-over of the Verdun strategy*?
Makes sense, since they’ve already re-booted several other WWI scenarios in Ukraine: Tannenberg, the Somme: why not some more of the classics???

*Though with drones, cellphones and armor this time…..
