I think in this conservation we’re confusing two different issues. Conservative American evangelicals views regarding laws in America and the same group regarding Israel. As far as legislating biblical piety on the general public, I’m deeply opposed to any theocratic impulse, and will publicly fight against it as a Christian myself. But as far as American evangelicals, Israel has never had as good an ally in the world. Again, how are they an existential threat to Israel the way, say, Iran is? I just don’t see it.
