You kinda knew this was coming eventually. The hatred of Iran is so intense that the idea of supporting monsters like Daesh holds a certain appeal to the Cold Warriors.

So, we liberated Shiite populated but Suni-ruled Iraq, allowing Shiites a greater say in Iraq’s affairs, except now Iraq’s Shiites are on better terms with Iran’s Shiites, who are our enemies, so we should arm Suni-ISIS to recapture Iraq from the Shiites of Iran.

Is this pretty close to the Tom Friedman argument?
