I habitually conduct my charcoal grilling barefoot, because I am a moron. Once, after firing things up in the chimney, I lost a little dime-sized coal out the bottom of the chimney and proceeded to put my heel on it.

Turns out it takes a good three or four seconds before you start to feel it. I do not recommend duplicating this experiment [xkcd Image: the_difference.png]— a full-callous-thick blister takes a good long while to go away.

I recently had a potholder shift a bit while holding a baking sheet just removed from a 450° oven. Is it wrong that after I reflexively dropped it, while holding my thumb under cold running water, I was impressed that I had dropped the hot thing before my brain registered the heat? Kind of interesting, but I won’t be repeating it to see if it happens every time, thankyouverymuch.
