I really like these shows that have a specific story to tell and they tell it and then they end it like The Wire or BSG or Life on Mars (BBC one, not the one on American TV, which was good, but not as good as the BBC).

I agree. And that’s what LOST wanted to do on network TV, and it took ABC a season and a half to agree to the arrangement, but they finally did, and maybe the success of LOST will spurn other network production companies to start moving from the “beat it until it dies” production model and give the public more of these “year spanning” movie like epics.

The current WIRED magazine points this out with a 8 page article on LOST.
