A co-worker was married to a guy whose family works a lot of the concessions. We managed to throw a Derby party in Seoul at around 0300, with that year’s correct glasses and napkins.

Sweet! A friend of mine has a nearly complete set of Derby glasses. Somewhere I have one or two that survived my visits to the Infield in the mid-80s.

The build to the race is something to behold. Louisville has turned a two-minute race into a two-week-long extravaganza of entertainment and tourist attractions. And for one or two days (for the Oaks and the Derby), the rich and famous, and the world’s media pay attention to Louisville, KY. The other 363 days of the year it’s like “Louisville where?”
