The extremists saw Boehner as the reason the GOP controlled Congress couldn’t stop Obama, when in fact he did plenty to obstruct the administration. The reason he’s so hated on the right is because he understood one basic fact, he simply didn’t have the votes to push through things like repealing the ACA. Whoever replaces him his going to run into the same brick wall of reality, the only question is how much damage they incur in the collision.

I imagine there is a contingent of conservatives in and outside Congress who thought Boehner “caved” in 2013 and that the shutdown should have gone on indefinitely until they got everything they wanted.
