The existence of welfare? no. Too much welfare? maybe. If the government is the breadwinner in the family, a strong marriage may be unaffected, but the incentives to stay in a rocky marriage are lessened. Children of the poor are much less likely to be in a 2 parent house than back in the day, see my CDC link upstairs. I’m on the outside looking in on this, but that’s the jist of 100 editorials and wonks on TV my whole adult life. The link is widely accepted.
