re: #386 Decatur Deb

Yeah—flourescent spectra tend to suck. I’ve seen some ‘warm white’ LEDs. The mercury issue is real, but exaggerated—burning coal to generate wasted power puts out Hg in a less-manageable mode. (Gaaak-it took 3 times longer to correct this than to type it. More coffee.)

At the stores around here there are three choices of CF bulbs. Warm which to me seem like a regular bulb, daylight which is a starker brighter light and one that’s in between. I have the warm ones in things like lamps and reading lights and the daylight ones in places like the kitchen and workshop where I want a brighter and starker light. If I put a daylight one in my reading lamp it drives me batty but the warm ones work fine.

With that said I’m patiently waiting for LED tech to progress and come down in price. I will at least try out a couple of the LED bulbs the next time any of my CF’s burn out even though they’re pricey.
I am going to be using LED’s in some of the remodeling work. There are some great options out there for non task related lighting and I’m going to be putting some LED’s outside where I could use some light to get around at night but don’t need the area to be bright, bright.
