Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa…heart of Maranatha Village.

People are all freaking out about “C. Peter Wagner”…my father probably took courses with fucking “C. Peter Wagner” at Fuller.

When I was growing up, beginning of the semester we’d go to Christian Discount Bookstore in frickin Bell, or wherever it was off the 605, and then to Maranatha Village to get all manner of Word and Light albums.

I remember when “Christian Rock” was making big waves, due to Calvary Chapel/Maranatha Village. I’m pretty ambivalent about it on a personal level, but A.D. allowed me to keep a channel open to Kansas, which allowed a channel to the rest of prog.

To me, it was all the same, anyway, since it was all classical and all Bach. When you’re 14, it’s hard to apply your parent’s social hysteria to the music they’re making you take lessons to learn, when you see it popping up in the culture all around you. Special times.
