Iā€™m visiting my second camp this summer actually. Sachsenhausen. Iā€™m hoping that my youngest brother seeing it will have the same impact seeing Dachau did for me nine years ago. I need to learn more about the history of denial. My fear is as the generation that survived WWII eventually fades out, denial will become more common place.

When I was in Gdansk I could not bring myself to visit Stutthof. (I have relatives that did not make it out of there.)

The closest I came to visiting a Nazi site was the Gdansk main post office (where the opening battle of WW2 in Europe took place against civilian postal and railroad workers).

en.wikipedia.org

(I sent letters and post cards to a number of post office workers here in Nebraska from there - when I got home, a number of them noted that put a bit more pride in their work). The post card I sent home from there is on display in our post office now.
