I bought that new Mavis Staples album and I really wanted to like it, but there are too many songs that sound like Mavis Staples singing on a half-baked Jeff Tweedy album. Mavis’ singing only emphasizes that too many of the songs sounds like bad alt-roots-rock. It made me cringe. I had to get rid of the CD.
