I don’t agree. He clearly stated that the temperature on Mars is exactly as it is on Earth. It’s not “misstating” anything to quote his exact words.

Since Smith is currently maintaining that this is what he meant, it is fair to say that he misspoke when he said, “…the temperature on Mars is exactly as it is here ….”. That is what it means to misspeak.
It’s not “misstating” anything to quote his exact words.
I was not accusing people quoting him as making a misstatement——-I was saying that Smith’s comment about the temperature was a misstatement.
