As I posted earlier, that’s inaccurate. The only ban is on sales in pet stores, not a ban on private sales, or adoptions from the pound or rescue organizations.

It is also unlikely to pass, as the scientific studies are saying that the shelter animals do not largely come from pet stores.

Finally, San Francisco euthanizes 13% of all shelter dogs and cats, versus 35% nationally. We do amazingly well at placing animals, and this is, in spirit, part of that; the reason this is being even considered is how many people abandon their hamsters and other pets at shelters, and the difficulty in placing those animals.
