Am I missing something? Wasn’t it the Dutch who arrested and held them while the US passed them through without arresting/holding them? IIRC, the Dutch weren’t happy that the Christmas bomber flew out of Schiphol. Seems they were over zealous this time.

Law enforcement will seem to be over zealous from time to time. That’s unavoidable. If done properly and with regard to the suspects rights it works.
