Dutch Hatemonger Geert Wilders Acquitted of Inciting Hatred

The Wilders’ acquittal comes at a time when Dutch public opinion has completely soured on admitting under-educated people from undemocratic Islamic regimes to the Netherlands where some freely espouse their intolerance of Jews, Israel, Christians, gays, Islamic apostates etc. My country remains a very very tolerant one. In many ways much more so than the US! But it no longer tolerates intolerance or aids and abets racist close-minded newcomers by remaining silent. To get there a Dutch parliamentarian has had to lean to live with bodyguards 24/7 _ a common sight in the US but an offensive one in the Netherlands! A Dutch female Islamic apostate had to move into exile in the US. A Dutch filmmaker who made an Islam-critical documentary had to be murdered by an unrepenting Muslim. Gay bashing had to go up. And soccer fans had to feel free enough to make hissing noises (in the manner of leaking gas) at Ajax Amsterdam matches. Wilders’ anti-Islam narrative grates but to demonize him is to miss the point. Look at the context. (Charles Johnson is quite wrong to say Wilders ‘explicitly advocates’ Muslims lose their rights of free speech and religion.’) Wilders engages public sentiment in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe where, at last, governments are slowly taking a cue: they now embrace the view that newcomers to a house of many colors are welcome only if they abide by the rules of such a house.
