Mubarak is very, very strongly entrenched and the army is behind him.

On the other hand, I’m sure most people would have said the same about Ceauşescu at one point… Its hard to get a true feel for the internal power structure. The army needs to maintain the appearance of absolute control to ensure continued US aid.
