Not really, but some of the references would make a bit more sense. Those references aren’t important to the show though, so you can watch DD without watching JJ.

I highly recommend watching JJ on its own. It’s a really great series. What I love about the Netflix superhero series is that the fighting isn’t the usual obviously choreographed fights where the hero mops up the opposition without getting a scratch on him. It’s more messy and is more like what a real fight might be like.
