Read it. Her second point is…Ugh. Not in the bad way, just that subject makes my hackles raise because of how much I hate it.

The Neo-Calvinistic prosperity theology is one of the most absolute rank things about the strain of Conservative Evangelism that’s seeped into nearly every facet of America today. The absolute slavish fealty to enforcing Alger-esque ‘bootstraps’ mentality as if it was THE one true path to salvation, and if you failed, you clearly failed because you’re a bad person and God Hates You.

And Jesus never taught it. But you never would know it by looking at so many of his American followers. Which is why it confuzzles them when I tell them I follow Jesus, but I don’t do church, because church is generally full of people who worship wealth and power, men who think women should STFU and leaders who will cover up child sexual abuse with regularity.

I don’t claim to be perfect, and I sure as hell don’t have it right, but I do know that Jesus didn’t spend his time cozying up to wealth and power. If he did, we wouldn’t know him at all today because he would have been some stooge to Herod or Pilate or the chief temple priest.
