Wages? In the good old days Alabama farm workers picked for free, the way the Founding Fathers intended.

Raising wages to where they need to be to get people to want that work would cause some horrendous inflation, but it would be the right thing to do. Food is too cheap, subsidized by treating the poorest working people like dirt. Same goes for building trades. Textiles imported from places they treat people even worse are so cheap that none of the thrift stores around here want any clothing donations any more. And I’m in one of the poorest counties in one of the poorest states.
