But, that’s why Oracle has always been “slow.” You build a SQ select, that has so many conditions, joins and function calls, the server still has to break it down into the steps, and that adds to the time slices on the server.

Oracle’s answer to speed has always been, buy bigger processors. A lot of that has to do with PL/SQ. And if you have ever seen what’s actually behind those forms, it’s a whole DIFFERENT language, more akin to what was behind the early Oracle forms/reports.

Procedural languages like I mentioned (and add ADA to that), allow you much more control over the logic flow, how you slice it, how you pass it to the processor, how you tweak it, and so on. And in the end, much more readable and documentable.

Ain’t that the truth..We have wicked Sun Servers running Oracle..
We try to do what you can..Call backs on View tables..Etc.. To tune the App..But you are right ..Oracle is very Hardware dependant..
