The bit with the wedding cake reminds of how people confuse the religious sacrament of marriage (which any church may refuse based on religious beliefs) and the secular institution of marriage (which cannot be denied by law based on race, color, creed or gender)

There was a time when the two were identical, but a Justice of the Peace who tries to deny one on moral/religious grounds should just quit his or her job and go become a pastor in a church that does not perform gay weddings.
