if you can sell or transfer a gun to someone without having to verify for sure they are not legally barred from owning one, then there some kind of loophole, call it whatever name you want

And not just gun shows: I could take the shotgun I’ve owned for years and sell it today in my town to anyone I wanted without ever knowing if that person is legally allowed to buy a gun. Moreover, I would not need to report its sale or conduct any sort of check on the person.

That is a loophole so large you could sail an aircraft carrier through it.
