Good morning to you all!

The Brits have lots of rail and they do it with monstro rights-of-way, generally two or three tracks in each direction. One is reserved for locals, the others for expresses. A triangular high speed corridor connecting San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston (with a stop in Austin) would probably be a viable option, but it would require the purchase of a shitpot of land and the disruption of a lot of neighborhoods to drive into the City centers. The Brits had the advantage of pre-existing corridors. We generally don’t. It’d be a tough nut, politically. But in the next fifty years or so, I don’t see an alternative. Gasoline won’t be getting any cheaper.

And {Realwest}, good to see you! I agree that the lack of nuclear is crippling in the long term for our energy policy.
