Did some more research on Wikipedia (I know I know, but its a start) evidently Bin Laden also had an issue with how when the s*** went down during the first Gulf War, the government of Saudi Arabia put its faith in the US to protect its assets in the region rather than using Bin Laden’s forces. So there’s another piece in the puzzle for you…

My understanding, to greatly simply it, is that they want the U.S. out of Muslim lands. The fact that in some cases it was Muslim rulers who invited the U.S. in for protection is apparently irrelevant.
