They’re marginalizing themselves because they’re unable to grow out of their hatred of anyone who doesn’t toe the right-wing Christianist cult line. Not only to most people want nothing to do with that, most Christians want nothing to do with it.

They refused to stand up to or at least distance themselves from the extremists for fear of being shouted down by some Tea party goombah at a town hall meeting. This led to an attention-grabbing race to the bottom to see who could say the most outrageous thing about Obama’s America.

I always thought that politics was about winning people over to your point of view, not simply writing them off as losers, moochers, terrorist-sympathizers or America-haters.
