I give myself 40 minutes to drive about 20 miles. The heavy traffic around here is probably a lot lighter than that in SoCal at midnight.

40 min seems a good safe margin for 20 miles. I bet you have it figured pretty good even to account for those occasional days when The Kid had to go back into the house for something he forgot.
