Far more mercury comes from coal-fired power plants than could ever be released from CFL bulbs. And using CFL bulbs reduces electricity use, which in turn would result in fewer emissions from coal-fired plants. That’s the point.

I still don’t get what your point is. Since CF bulbs release less mercury than coal plants that makes them safer than incandescent light bulbs?
