I am glad the pup made it out safe, and that the US Coast Guard agreed to rescue Leo.

The US Coast Guard made a daring rescue to airlift a Golden Retriever to safety on New Year’s Day after he plunged more than 300 feet over a sharp cliff — the second incident of its kind at the Oregon state park in just seven months.

Leo had been bounding ahead of his two owners and their other pup at Ecola State Park around 2:45 p.m. when he toppled over the ledge onto the rocky shores of Cannon Beach below.

The drop — the height of the Statue of Liberty — is only accessible by repelling down from a hiking trail.

Local fire departments had just set up their pulley systems when the Coast Guard chopper arrived on the side of the steep cliffside.

Dramatic footage of the rescue shows the 3-year-old pup cowering on the slim shore with his body pressed against the large rocks of the shoreline.
