The moral of this 2010 election is to be careful who you nominate. Note that Marco Rubio is very conservative, but he also had the poise and campaigning skill to win. By contrast, Christine O’Donnell won the nomination because the GOP base voted “not liberal” without reference to whether their preferred nominee was electable. Republicans need to take that lesson to heart:

Nominating conservatives is a good idea, but you need to make sure that they really capable of winning. Don’t fall prey to wishful thinking, the voters tend not to elect weirdos of questionable background.
