“Air Force officials say this was a photo mission for their crew. They were shooting from the Statue of Liberty to south of the Holland tunnel, as well as from the Newark Bay to north of the Staten Island Expressway.

Officials say the shoot was part of a normal training mission. They added that they do the missions quite often.

President Barack Obama, who apparently was not informed about the fly-by, was “furious,” CBS News reported.”

My opinion, no matter who asked for the mission, the White House guy that approved it, should be canned. What sense did it make to notify NYC officials and then ask them to keep it quite ?

I could think of several reasons for asking that it not be spread around. My main beef was CNN reporting that someone said was classified. That may have been an assumption on the reporters part, or it may be actually be the case, as I tend to think that flight plans for one of the WH 747s could very well be classified, but to actually say it was a classified mission to the press strikes me as a very Hollywood* way of doing things.

I don’t care if The One is pissed, but it sounds like the Mayor’s office dropped the ball on informing him. The stories I’ve read said the the NYPD was informed as well.
