That said, there is absolutely no comparison between a special in 2017 and one in 2010. Partisan makeup be damned, we are in a whole new political era.

I remember it well. I remember calling my niece nightly to tell her to vote for Coakley, even though she was terrible. That Brown was a totally empty suit. My powers of persuasion were such that she voted for Brown to “give him a chance” (and then voted for him again the next time because “he hadn’t really screwed up that badly.”) I was extremely disappointed in her thought process.
