Debate moderators are often under orders to not piss off the candidates. This is because the corporation they work for wants to continue televising debates an wants the eventual nominee to spend money advertising on that corp’s network. So while we’d all like to see truly hard-nitting questions asked by debate moderators, that is not going to happen.
