I never got around to seeing the prequel, to be honest. Carpenter’s version remains, for me, the best telling of the story, and far more faithful to the novella it’s based on.

It’s not bad but it’s not the same IMO. I haven’t read the original Novella. I just love how Carpenter’s version is pretty simple in its brilliance. You have about 8-10 guys so there’s not too many characters. In a way, it’s kind of like a horror version of Lumet’s 12 Angry Men. It works in its limitations. It has so many memorable scenes. It was always my favorite movie to watch on VHS at my best friend’s house when we were kids. I even did a third grade project on it lol which probably had my teacher wondering.
