My response is a little different, but King Crimson and ELP turned me on to progressive rock.

Greg Lake and Keith E are like, whole-package people for me. The thing that got me was their musicianship…I first found out about them in high school, ironically, as the keyboardist for this white Baptist church on a bus tour of the west coast.

There was some of everybody in that band - 7th Day Adventist bassist, Lutheran horn player, me (Methodist/Charismatic), closet-atheist guitarist, also female; lol we were a crew. But the bassist was the one who slipped me Brain Salad Surgery. Was never the same, since.
