That’s not going to end well for the students attempting that - they’ll find themselves in bigger trouble.

The student loan system is screwed up, and it has as much to do with the free flowing subsidies to colleges/universities that allow them to consistently increase tuition outpacing inflation by a considerable margin without any ill-effects. Students can’t possible afford the tuition levels at present, let alone the debt burden going forward (and which can be equivalent to a home mortgage under certain circumstances - going to private university and then to a graduate school program). No discharge under bankruptcy. No alternatives.

As they say, it’s the next big bubble to collapse, and the colleges and university system are going to have to deal with it - regardless of whether they’re public or private. They might not feel it right away (since student loans are disbursed directly to the schools at the beginning of the school semesters), but if fewer students attend college because of it, they wont be able to afford the infrastructure/programs they’ve built up and will have to severely cut expenditures; reducing payroll, benefits, and/or close departments and programs.

It’s a mess that is just around the corner.
